Prof. Lothar Wagner is the Director of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering of Clausthal University of Technology. He holds a Diploma degree (1978) in Mechanical Engineering and a Dr.-Ing. degree (1981) both from the Ruhr-University Bochum as well as a Dr.-Ing. habil. degree (1989) from the TU Hamburg-Harburg. He was a Research Assistant (1978-81) at the Institute of Materials Technology of the Ruhr-University Bochum, an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow (1981-83) at the University of Rochester, NY, USA and a Research Associate (1983-93) at the TU Hamburg-Harburg. From 1990-93, Lothar Wagner worked as Assistant Professor in Materials Science and Forming Technology at the TU Hamburg-Harburg and from 1993-02 as Professor of Materials Technology at TU Cottbus where he also acted as Member of the Board of the Research Center for Light Materials (2000-02). Since 2002, Lothar Wagner is Professor at Clausthal University of Technology and as of 2005 Director of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering. Lothar Wagner was an Adjunct Professor (2003-07) at the Clemson University, SC, USA. He is a Member of the Board (since 2006) of Clausthal Center of Materials Technology (CZM), Guest Professor (since 2008) at Xinxiang University, Henan, China as well as Guest Professor (as of 2009) at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) in Xi’an, Shaanxi, China.
Lothar Wagner is a Member of the International Scientific Committee on Shot Peening (ISCSP). He was Chairman of the ICSP8 (2002) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and will be the Chairman of the ICSP12 (2014) in Goslar. He was the 2000 Shot Peener of the Year. Prof. Wagner has published over 250 scientific papers in International Journals and Conference Proceedings.
